Wireless Innovation Ltd has been providing Satellite-based solutions to the onshore and offshore Oil & Gas market sectors for in excess of 15 years.

Throughout this time there has been a necessity for Wireless Innovation engineers to understand the end user’s SCADA/Telemetry system in order to provide either seamless integration of the satellite solution into an existing terrestrial system or, in some cases, to facilitate the smooth and risk free migration from the original communication solution to the satellite solution.

An end-to-end solution

Over the years Wireless Innovation engineers have acquired knowledge of many of the legacy protocols as used by the SCADA/Telemetry systems of today. This knowledge makes Wireless Innovation unique as a satellite solution provider; as responsibility is taken for a complete end-to-end (RTU/PLC to FEP/Master Station) solution, whereas other satellite providers will limit their responsibility to the satellite system only due to lack of the necessary integration experience. This can then leave the end user with a grey area – the interface between SCADA/Telemetry system and satellite system- with the consequence that the system does not perform as it should - or in extreme cases, not at all.

In the field - on and offshore applications

Wireless Innovation engineers have used this unique experience to make a satellite solution work in a situation where another satellite provider could not meet the operating criteria for the control and monitoring of a country wide gas distribution network. The satellite solution in this case comprises of in excess of 200 VSAT terminals which in turn provides communications to in excess of 2,000 RTU’s. Wireless Innovation has also provided satellite solutions for the monitoring and control of unmanned gas platforms where the reliability of the service is of paramount importance as unscheduled visits can be both time critical as well as very costly. The Wireless Innovation integration expertise was also instrumental in the VSAT supply for a pipeline compressor ESD (Emergency Shut Down) communication solution.
